Atlas Mountain Treks

Walk where the Berber world begins.

Experiences

From the Dades Valley to the M'Goun massif, our treks lead you through cedar forests, crimson gorges and almond villages — at the pace of a Berber guide who was born here, on roads he has known since childhood.

Choose a half-day ramble along the river, a full-day loop through the Todra Gorges, or a multi-day trek with overnights in family kasbahs. We carry bread baked in clay ovens, oranges, and the time to stop where the light is best. Every group is one guide, one mule, one slow conversation.

Layer up

Dressed for the High Atlas

  • Layers, always — mornings near the peaks bite, afternoons in the valleys sweat.
  • Trekking shoes with grip — the Berber paths are rocky and uneven.
  • A windbreaker — the wind on a pass at 2,800 m is rarely polite.
  • Light gloves and a beanie if you're hiking before May.

— The Xaluca team

On the mountain

Hike-day essentials

  • Daypack, 1.5 L of water, dried fruit and almonds — the air thins fast.
  • Sun protection at altitude is non-negotiable — SPF 50, sunglasses, hat.
  • Walking poles ease your knees on the long descents.
  • A small first-aid kit with blister plasters — your feet will thank you.

— The Xaluca team

After the trail

Nights in the valleys

  • A warm jumper and thick socks — the lakeside refuges drop sharply at night.
  • Power bank — solar panels keep us warm but won't always charge phones.
  • Earplugs — even silent valleys have a rooster at 5 a.m.
