The Sahara, slowly — at the pace of a dromedary.

Experiences

A two-hour ride across the Erg Chebbi at golden hour, then a night under camel-hair haimas where the Milky Way pours over the dunes. Our caravans are led by Sahrawi guides whose families have crossed these sands for generations.

From the camp at the edge of the dunes, you mount your dromedary as the sun begins to drop. The light turns the sand to copper, then bronze, then rose. You arrive at the bivouac in time for mint tea, mechoui lamb pulled from the embers, and a sky so dense with stars it feels closer than the campfire. In the morning, a glass of orange juice on the highest dune, a slow walk back, and a hot shower waiting at the auberge.

Layer up

Clothes for the Atlas & the desert

Dress in layers — a cool High-Atlas morning can become a hot dune afternoon.
A fleece or sweater for the nights — both in the Atlas and the desert it cools sharply after sundown.
Closed, broken-in shoes for kasbahs, gorges and dune-walks.
A wide cheche scarf — shields you from the sun, the wind and the fine sand.

Essential accessories

Sunglasses and SPF 50 sunblock — Saharan sun is genuinely intense.
A cap or wide-brimmed hat for the central hours of the day.
Lip balm and moisturiser — the air is bone-dry and your skin will notice.
Reusable water bottle + hand sanitiser for the 4×4 stretches.

After sundown

Nights on the route

A small torch or head-lamp for moving around camp once the lanterns dim.
An extra layer — at 3 a.m. on the dune the temperature can drop by 15 °C.
Something soft for the ride out — camels sway, you'll thank yourself.
Phone on airplane mode — let the silence and the stars do the talking.
