Experience the magic of the Sahara at sunrise with an unforgettable journey to the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Guests are picked up directly from the hotel and transferred by 4x4 to the edge of the dunes; from there a camel caravan leads to a privileged viewpoint for one of Morocco's most spectacular sunrises.

We leave before dawn — the desert is silent, the air sharp and clean. Your 4x4 winds out of Arfoud or Merzouga until the headlights catch the first wave of dunes. A Sahrawi guide is waiting with the camels, blankets folded over their saddles. You ride into the dunes at the pace of camel hooves on sand. Just as the rim of the sky turns pink, you reach a private viewpoint, the camels sit, and a glass of mint tea is poured. The sun rises. Nothing else moves.

Layer up

Clothes for the Atlas & the desert

Dress in layers — a cool High-Atlas morning can become a hot dune afternoon.
A fleece or sweater for the nights — both in the Atlas and the desert it cools sharply after sundown.
Closed, broken-in shoes for kasbahs, gorges and dune-walks.
A wide cheche scarf — shields you from the sun, the wind and the fine sand.

Essential accessories

Sunglasses and SPF 50 sunblock — Saharan sun is genuinely intense.
A cap or wide-brimmed hat for the central hours of the day.
Lip balm and moisturiser — the air is bone-dry and your skin will notice.
Reusable water bottle + hand sanitiser for the 4×4 stretches.

After sundown

Nights on the route

A small torch or head-lamp for moving around camp once the lanterns dim.
An extra layer — at 3 a.m. on the dune the temperature can drop by 15 °C.
Something soft for the ride out — camels sway, you'll thank yourself.
Phone on airplane mode — let the silence and the stars do the talking.
